Description: The facility site point feature classification supports a diverse set of facilities inventoried for a variety of uses in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. In some cases, there are multiple facility site points within a single site. Facility Site Points include: schools, parks, public recreation amenities, landmarks, public attractions, landfills, cemeteries, fire stations, commercial and retail centers, nurseries, and veterinary clinics, as well as aboriginal, banking, cultural, education, emergency response, government, health and medical, recycling, shipping, transportation, water treatment facilities.
Description: Address point features are required for the administration of address information by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The attributes for this layer are represented as: [ADDRESS] - The street number, unit and street name as assigned by P&D; [COMMUNITY] - The Service Area or locality in which the address is located; [STREET_NAME] - The street name as assigned by P&D; [STREET_NUMBER] - The street number as assigned by P&D; STREET_NUMBER_SUFFIX] - The street number suffix as assigned by P&D. This is used to denote addresses for separate buildings on a single survey parcel; [ST_DIRECTION] - ; [ST_NAME] - The street name for an address less the street type. [ST_TYPE] - The abbreviation for street type; [UNIT] - The unit as assigned by P&D. This denotes separate addresses within the same building such as in secondary suites or basement suites; [ROTATION_ANGLE] - A rotation angle used for cartographic labeling. The units are in geographic degrees where 0 represents north; [BASEMENT] - Represents basements that have had an application approved for a development permit. The values in this field are as follows: DP - Development Permit has been approved; BP - Building Permit has been approved; LBS - Legal basement suite has been approved; YES - Development permit approved prior to 2014.; NO - No information available; DS - Basement destroyed in wild fire 2016; [BASEMENT_BEDROOMS] - The number of bedrooms as applied for on the development permit.
Description: Hydrography Single Line Network (SLNET) represents surface water and arbitrary network connectors with a single line representation. This dataset contains all captured single line representations of hydrographic features as well as single line representations of polygonal features created by the Government of Alberta for their 20K Base Features Database. In specific instances, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has modified or added to this dataset to reflect the current state of surface water in an area within the RMWB. In cases where it is apparent that a stream or water channel has been forced underground, such as in urban areas, the prefix Former has been applied to the features hydrological type.Arbitrary flow lines were created from a digital elevation model and, where required, were manually generated to connect hydrography features that displayed insufficient flows from automated processing.SLNET Feature Types:perennial stream, indefinite stream, recurring stream (intermittent), lake primary flow representation, major river - primary flow representation, river major - secondary flow representation, perennial oxbow, recurring oxbow (intermittent), major canal, ditch, and arbitrary flows. The RMWB added a feature type to indicate where a channel connects to a larger river. The prupose of this category is for labelling. Description: Hydrography polygons represent the geographic extent of land covered by intermittent or permanent water bodies and watercourses. This dataset contains all captured polygon representations of hydrographic features created by the Government of Alberta for their 20K Base Features Database. In specific instances, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has modified or added to this dataset to reflect the current state of the surface water in an area within the RMWB.Hydrography Polygon Attribute Feature Types:Surface water feature types: perennial lake, recurring lake (intermittent), major river, perennial island lake, recurring lake island (intermittent), river island, perennial oxbow, recurring oxbow (intermittent), wetland, lagoon, major canal, dugout, quarry, reservoir, and lake/river sandbars.Sandbar categorization types: The presence of a sandbar is indicated under the sbflag field and is designated by the letter Y. The occurrence of the letter R in the sbflag field identifies features that were modified or added to the hydrography polygons by the RMWB.Please consult with the RMWB GIS Group for distribution information, further metadata details, and the appropriate GOA contact information. Description: The Trail dataset identifies pathways that support walking, cycling, hiking, and other forms of non-vehicular transport in Fort McMurray; although, in some cases, motorized recreational transportation may be permitted on a regular or seasonal basis. This dataset classifies trails as the following types: access (provides entrance to a main trail or facility site), connector (pathways that connect one area to another), natural area (trails within natural area parks), park (trails within non-natural area parks), perimeter (trails that border the outer edge of a neighbourhood), pond (pathways around a pond), and school site (trails within a schools site). The trails surface type is also indicated in this dataset; a trail’s surface material includes: asphalt, concrete, decking (wooden panels such as boardwalk), decorative stone, gravel, mulch, and unsurfaced path (unmaintained trail that is composed of grass and/or dirt). The status of a trail is identified under the Condition attribute field; a trail is classified as either existing or proposed.
Description: The road centrelines dataset contains all captured road segments that represent the centre line of roadways in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The type of road segment is categorized cartographically and is intended strictly for mapping purposes. Road segment classification types include: highways, highway crossings, laneways, primary roads, secondary roads, tertiary roads, ramps, resource roads, winter trails, and seasonal roads. The spatial orientation of road segments has been compiled from various aerial photography sources. The accuracy of this dataset was strengthened from adjustments made using aerial photography covering the geographic extent of the RMWB. The road centrelines dataset also indicates the provincial route number of road segments that are designated as primary and secondary highways by the Government of Alberta.Road names / name updates are approved by Council and not inputted in the GIS database until applicable road signage has been installed. For roads within the urban area contact Jose George, Roads department, for confirmation that the signage has been installed. For Roads within the rural areas contact Brad Giekie, Rural Operations, for confirmation that signage has been installed.
Description: The education facilities dataset identifies the location and name of elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as college campuses and other learning centers in the RMWB. This dataset outlines a school sites’ hard surface (school building and paved surface surrounding the facility) and soft surface (grass and recreation areas at a school site).
Description: The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is a Specialized Municipality; which is a unique municipal structure that allows urban and rural communities to coexist in a single municipal government.
Description: Hamlet and Urban Service Area boundaries in the RMWB, these include: Fort McMurray, Fort MacKay, Anzac, Saprae Creek Estates, Conklin, Janvier, Fort Fitzgerald, Gregoire Lake Estates and Fort Chipewyan. The council of specialized municipality can designate an unincorporated community that is within its boundaries to be a hamlet. A community can be a hamlet if it consists of five or more dwellings, has a generally accepted boundary and name, and contains land that is used for non-residential purposes.
